Press Release
For immediate release (Heerbrugg, 21 April 2010)

Leica Geosystems has announced that Steven Vesterdal has been appointed Director of
Machine Control Mining for North and South America. He will succeed Sergio Blacutt who
leaves the company on good terms to pursue a new business in the mining sector.

Sergio Blacutt’s achievements
Over previous years, Sergio Blacutt has led the Machine Control Mining business in North and South
America to be a great success. One of Sergio’s most recent achievements, in late 2009, was to
provide one of the world’s largest gold and copper producers, Barrick, and Codelco, with the awardwinning
Leica Jigsaw360 Mine Management Solution, building a long-term partnership with their
organizations.

Looking back on his career in the mining business area of Leica Geosystems, he says:” I am very
happy to be leaving the company with a clear vision forward, and an enviable position for future
growth in the mining industry. In summary, I have nothing but best wishes for Steven and the whole
mining group at Leica Geosystems, and I am convinced that their success will continue well into the
future.”

New Managing Director Steven Vesterdal
Steven Vesterdal has a long and successful track record in the mining business. Steven has almost
12 years experience in Modular Mining Systems where he worked as a Project Engineering Manager.
He was involved in many customer implementations, developing key subsystems and modules. He
also participated heavily in sales, product development and customer account management. After
that time Steven became the Chief Technology Officer at the Automation Center in Tucson/Arizona.

Asked about the reason he joined the mining business of Leica Geosystems, Steven comments: ”I
was in the position of Vice President, Hardware Engineering at Jigsaw Technologies before Leica
Geosystems acquired Jigsaw in 2007. After the acquisition, I accepted the role of Director of
Operations within Jigsaw as Leica Geosystems appeared to be an exciting company with decades of
experience and a reputation for engineering and product excellence.”

Together with his team Steven Vesterdal will expand on the recent successes of the mining business:
”The Mining Business in North and South America has an excellent opportunity to capture business,
especially in the gold and copper mining sectors. Our strategy is to continue to develop the market
and support innovative solutions that allow mine operators to operate more efficiently and to measure
and manage their operations.”

Mark Concannon, President of the division, is very happy that Steven Vesterdal has decided to join
the organization as the successor of Sergio Blacutt: ”We appreciate Sergio’s excellent contribution
and efforts over the years within the mining business and I wish him all the best for his future
projects. I’m also very pleased that Steven has accepted his new role, I am sure he will continue to
build on Sergio’s previous success and lead the organization to further growth and greater
achievements.”
